Return of The Vortex

We did it again. Another unplanned, rather expensive trip into The Vortex and back. Purchases are below the fold (links to IMDB as usual):

A very young Charlie Sheen and Sissy Spacek star in this movie about a girl and her boyfriend who murder her family and take off on a killing spree across the Midwest. Looking forward to it.

An African prince, turned into a vampire by Dracula centuries ago, reeks havok on LA in this Blaxploitation flick.
Dinner at Eight

One of George Cukor’s best films from the Thirties. A social climbing couple give a dinner party which results in an eventful evening. Stars Marie Dressler, John Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore and the delightful Jean Harlow.
Foxy Brown

The ultimate Pam Grier film.
Long Weekend

A couple in the Australian bush manage to piss off Nature big time – and Nature hits back.
My Neighbour Totoro

This gorgeous anime is about two children whose family move next to a forest shrine. They discover is looked after by a family of Totoro (forest spirits) whom they befriend.
Vanishing Point

A guy who needs to deliver a 1970 Dodge Challenger across the country takes a bet to get the car to its destination in only 15 hours. Adventures and car chases ensue. Referenced extensively by Tarantino in Grindhouse/Death Proof.

I’ve never seen Dinner at Eight, but I’ve always wanted to since I saw The Women.

I’ve seen Vanishing Point a couple of times, it’s pretty good. Cleavon Little is in it too, he’s the blind deejay who talks to the driver of the car.
From having seen a couple of Tarantino’s movies, I can see why he would reference this one, it’s one he would have made, I think.
