George Bush was visiting the Queen and said:
“As I’m the President, I’m thinking of changing how the USA is referred
to. It sounds a bit boring, so I think we should be a Kingdom”.
“I’m sorry, Mr Bush,” the Queen replied, “But for the USA to be a Kingdom, you would have to have a King
in charge – and you’re not a King.”
George Bush thought a while and then said: “Well, could we be a Principality, then?”.
Her Majesty replied: “Again, for the United States to be a Principality, you would have to
be a Prince – and you’re not a Prince, Mr Bush”.
Bush thought long and hard and came up with “Darn it! Well, what about an Empire?”
“Mr Bush,” said the Queen, “Surely you are aware that an Empire must have an Emperor in charge – and you are not an
Emperor. And before you say another word, I would venture the opinion the USA should continue to be referred to as a ‘Country’.”
