In which the author prepares for a birthday dinner.

As has become an annual tradition, we are once again going to Marque for dinner. I’m going to have to leave off blogging shortly to go and start getting ready. John wants me to put my hair in rollers so that it’s nice and early-1970s-Fassbinder-film curly for this evening… and that takes a long time to do.

In any case, I have had a nice, relaxing day today. I woke up at… ehhumm… 3pm, at which time John had already left to go to work. Fortunately, he had already given me part of my present, a new fluffy dressing gown and some blue sequinned slippers. I am also getting an extra 128mb memory card for my camera, and a camera case with a cleaning kit and a mini-tripod however we are still waiting for this item to be delivered from the US.

Anyway, must run. The curlers are calling.

Travel Bug

Friday Five

1. What’s the last place you traveled to, outside your own home state/country?
New York

2. What’s the most bizarre/unusual thing that’s ever happened to you while traveling?

Running into more Australian friends than we normally see in a month in Sydney while in New York! “Darling, let’s do lunch in New York, ya?”

3. If you could take off to anywhere, money and time being no object, where would you go?

Where wouldn’t I go? There are so many places that I would love to see. Let’s say an extended, unrushed, detailed tour of the world, taking the time and trouble to see the unusual places that tourists generally don’t go to.

4. Do you prefer traveling by plane, train or car?

Hm. Each of them has their discomforts. I’d have to say plane for the adrenaline rush at take off.

5. What’s the next place on your list to visit?

John and I have a little game where we take an atlas and randomly open a page (or a globe and randomly spin) and where the finger lands is one place on the itinerary. We’ve selected such places as Botswana, Irian Jaya and Antartica that method. It opens us up to considering places that are normally off the tourist menu, but some of them could be slightly dangerous.
