Yesterday’s Photo Shoot

The photo shoot yesterday went off very well. The set had come together well, and everyone looked as they were supposed to in their costumes. It paid off for John to ask for assistance from one of his photographer friends and another artist, as it would have been impossible for John to set up the shot and take it himself, handcuffed as he was.

John was suitably blackened from charcoal and ash, and reddened from the fire (red lipstick, really) and sat, handcuffed, in his chair looking aggressive. The policeman at the desk looked like he was typing up yet another report and was bored by the whole thing, while getting details of the offence from the (also bored) fireman. I stood to one side, with looks ranging from despair, to contempt to anger. In most shots I look away from the action, but in the anger shot, I look directly at John.

John got the transparencies developed yesterday – he was shooting on 5/4 slide film – so we have already seen the results. Out of 10 shots, there were 2 technical failures (to do with the camera), but each of the remaining 8 shots worked. It is difficult to decide what shot to use as, out of the 8 shots, there are perhaps 3 or 4 that are pretty much perfect with regard to poses, positioning and what John wanted to achieve.

All in all, that’s a very high success rate, and John is very happy with the shoot.
