Friday Five

OK. So it isn’t Friday, but I haven’t done one of these in a while and this one looks interesting…

1. How many TVs do you have in your home?

One. I see no need for multiple televisions, particularly since we have no children (but I still think the answer would be ‘one’ even if we did have kids).

2. On average, how much TV do you watch in a week?

It varies. I usualy don’t turn on the TV unless there is something particular I want to watch.

3. Do you feel that television is bad for young children?

Too much television is bad for anyone, not just young children. I do not think that TV should be used by the parent as a surrogate baby-sitter to keep the kids quiet, but having said that, TV can be an important stimulus for children when monitored appropriately. The issue is quality; what a child watches is as important, if not moreso, as how much a child watches.

4. What TV shows do you absolutely HAVE to watch, and if you miss them, you’re heartbroken?

BUFFY!!! The good quality history programs shown on SBS and ABC (the Australian one). I’m also a sucker for BBC period dramas.

5. If you had the power to create your own television network, what would your line-up look like?

Commercial-free or low-commercial, and with content similar to SBS’s eclectic mix, with a few kitchy and fun programs thrown in.
