The Winner Takes It All

I went and saw Mamma Mia on the weekend, as I was in the mood for a pleasant bit of fluff. And it met expectations - a fun romp, with ABBA songs.

But what blew me away was Meryl Streep. Who knew she could actually sing? I mean, really sing? Do yourself a favour and watch her emotional performance of The Winner Takes It All. If anyone could make singing an ABBA song Oscar-worthy, Meryl has done it. Seriously.

A Stepford Moment

I am not the most domestic of people, but I seem to have have had a Stepford weekend. First I baked and iced batches and batches of cupcakes for my niece’s birthday party, then I spend the rest of the weekend doing mad things like cleaning out all the cupboards in the kitchen and washing everything in them. Next thing you know I’ll be accosting random strangers and foisting homemade marmalade and tomato relish on them. Or, worse, actually enjoying doing the vacuuming. Save me, please!

Nevertheless, I am quite pleased with the somewhat rustic result with the cupcakes.

Light and Fluffy

I’ve no energy for a real post at the moment.

Instead I say: Go play this incredibly addictive little game.

Yum! Yum! Yum!

Behold, an abundance of perfect, luscious, tree-ripened, organic mangos, just picked off the trees in our backyard!

And this is only a small fraction of our bumper harvest. Yay! Although the fruit bats have been having a field day, too - they’ve probably eaten as many as we’ve been able to pick.

About bloody time: Australians apologise to the Stolen Generations.

Finally, a leader, a government and a parliament of Australia has had the guts and common decency to stand up and officially say “Sorry” to indigenous Australians and the Stolen Generations for the pain, heartache and cultural chaos caused by families being ripped apart due to systemic and personal racism.

It’s about bloody time.
