The US elections may have wide-reaching consequences for the rest of the world – but I for one sick to death of hearing about the US ‘presidential race’ in Australian news coverage. You’d think we were the 50-somethingth state.
And, even worse, the US aren’t even up to the election campaign yet! And I swear, mere selection of candidates for each party seems to get more news coverage in and have far more hype and hoo-haa attached to it than the Aussie elections do in an entire 4 year term, let alone the official campaigning period.
This year, the “ooh, look a black man” and “ooh, look a woman” factor makes the endless commentary and analysis even more over the top. I don’t give a stuff if Oprah supports Obama or Clinton. Really.
Come on, either the Democrats will put forth an Obama/Clinton ticket or a Clinton/Obama ticket – its foreordained. Either way will make history, regardless of whether the Democrats win the actual election or not.
And, funnily enough, Australians don’t vote in a US election.
So, Aussie papers? Get this: If I want to know what is going on, I will get my information and commentary from US sources.

I honestly have no idea who’s running the country in Australia, I don’t know why they think Australians need to know who is running the country here…
Didn’t you know we Americans are the universe around which all the rest of you revolve? *snort*
Trust me, Australians aren’t the only ones who are heartily sick of this election already.
Sorry for this late comment, but I just came across your blog and am going through the entries.
Four months after you wrote this, I think it’s even worse, and the stupid thing STILL isn’t over yet.
True, but since Hilary conceded, the Australian press has almost ceased to cover the US elections. I guess they were after the drama of woman vs black man.
